It depends on the nature of the work experience. If it is a year long placement I would expect multiple examples to come from it compared to a week’s work experience.
Yes, it is best to try and use varied examples. But if your strongest answers come from a work experience that is clearly much...
An example isn’t a position. An example will be a project within a position, and so it sounds like you could actually be using different examples anyway.
I don’t think you can assume it will be competency based. It might not be (they may just ask you to talk through your CV/it could be strengths based) but it’s more likely to be competency based. I would ask the recruiter you spoke to to see if you can get any further insight on how to prepare.
Are you using exactly the same detail as in your application? If so, I’d avoid it. But people recycle example all the time - they just are talking about different elements within that example. If you can do that, then it’s fine (as long as you are not recycling for multiple questions in an...
There’s loads of ways you could demonstrate it:
- what you are reading
- what events you have attended
- what tech skills you are developing (eg coding etc)
- knowledge of the sector/industry in application questions
- work experience in the sector
- optional modules you are choosing to study

Yes, if the question is specifically asking this separate to work experience sections, I would focus your work experience entries on responsibilities and personal impact, and cover skills (or knowledge) in the separate question requesting it, and ensure that is tailored to the firm in question.
A&O will recruit a fair number of people form direct TCs given their total TC numbers, so I don’t think this is an issue, especially if you are confident they are the right firm for you and you have legal work experience/other vacation schemes.
Very much depends on variables here:
- some people find it easy to get time off, some don’t. However, most will have to declare that you will be employed elsewhere and this is where it can get tricky even if you are allowed the time off.
- depending on how close a competitor the two firms...
I don’t think you need to explain why you didn’t convert the TC, but it really depends on what your feedback was on why you didn’t covert. If it was more your motivation, then if the firm you are applying to is more aligned to your interests, then you can just say that. If you didn’t covert...
