PFO from Milbank. I lowkey respect them for just getting to the point and not doing the patronising “we’ve had so many strong applications this year” spiel.
@Wanda Maximoff To add to this great answer, the bulk of your response should be about the A - action. A mistake many candidates is focusing too much on the S T and R when the A is where you gain the marks. Interviewers aren’t really assessing the example - they’re often assessing your approach...
Didn’t they say they would get back to everyone by 27 Jan?
I did the WG test and in that email they said they’ll let everyone know by this Thursday if they’ve progressed to the Zoom interview.
A good way to approach this question is to move beyond “lawyers give technically correct advice” and focus on how lawyers create value outside of live matters. One useful framing is reactive vs proactive. Many clients only approach lawyers when something has already happened (e.g a transaction...
No idea what the conversion rate is, but one of the managing partners said they don't cap the number of training contracts offered. This means, in theory, that everyone who does a VS with them could get a training contract.
Not a silly question at all. I have a stutter that can get worse when nervous (like interviews). I just tell the recruitment team/interviewer upfront. It's never counted against me, and them knowing ahead of time helps me to relax.
In terms of how to overcome this, I found the best way is to...
I wouldn't say it's that deep. Plus people may have said 'yes' but their plans might have changed in the meantime. It's often a long time between filling in the application form and getting an offer. I also applied to start in 2028. If I can't start sooner, I don't see how that would work...
This is a really comprehensive answer.
I’ll also add that grades are really not everything. Personally, I would rather get a solid 2:1 with extensive work/extra-curricular experience than a 1st and that’s it. Some firms will be stricter on this than others, but many firms will overlook slightly...
I did, but by mistake. I can’t start in August 2027 as I need to do the PGDL before SQE. When I was doing my form I thought it meant August 2028 and was an error. I didn’t realise it was asking if I could start a year earlier. But I’ll explain to grad recruitment if I get that far.
Another note on whether firms take into account mitigating circumstances: Cooley asked for ABB at A-level, but I got BCC. I also went to a non-RG uni and got a 2:1 and managed to progress to the second stage.
