    Slightly worried before my TC

Dear TCLA readers Provisio: I know lots of people on here are grinding away at getting their TC and I am sorry in advance if this post is irritating (if it's any help it took me two years and self funding to get to this point so I know the grind). I start my TC very soon at a Magic Circle firm...

    Researching firms: clients and deals

I always mention the odd deal or case only if it relates back to my experience, never go into the technical legal details, I think that can be a big error on a form. For example: say some experience you have had, how that experience gives you some understanding of x market, and how that is...

    Secured a training contract

Hello - sorry all I have edited my post as after taking away successful applications (for interviews I didn't go to or tests I didn't do and the two vac schemes I did actually get) I realistically did circa 22 applications. I think the biggest change was just getting into a positive mindset...

    Secured a training contract

Have a look at chambers student, the firm's graduate page and anywhere else to see what they look for in a candidate.... take say RPC... they have a charter or something which spells out clearly what type of person they want. So if you see that a firm has 'exemplary academic record' listed as...

    Secured a training contract

I wouldn't say it is a numbers game entirely. Looking back during my first app cycle I chose very specific firms that aligned to my non-legal work experience and my background generally. That was a 'successful' application cycle as I did secure x1 vacation scheme and 1x firm equivalent vacation...

    Secured a training contract

I honestly think many people apply to at least 15+ firms. Really depends on your approach though, and some of those were applications to the same firms a second time around. I did about 6 each window so: vac scheme 2017, TC 2019, winter vac scheme 2017, vac scheme 2018, and finally TC 2020. It...

Starting LPC without a TC? Thoughts ?

I started the LPC without a TC. Most people on the LPC do not have TCs so don't worry about that. (I would say around 40% do 60% don't - I was told this by careers consultant last year) If you are worried about funding I know that the University of Law offers two extra modules which gives you...

    Secured a training contract

Okay thanks, I think I will hold my horses for GR and maybe send an email to the partner this evening ! Happy to stick around on this site to share my experiences and see if I can lend a hand.

    Secured a training contract

Hello, I’ve managed to secure a TC via a straight training contract application with an MC firm and I’m incredibly chuffed. This is after 1.5 years of trying, two vacation schemes, 5 ACs, 22 applications, and my family fairly sick of me... so I hope that shows trying again and again pays off...

Are last minute TC applications a waste of time?

Update: a last minute TC application wasn't a waste of time. I sent one in for DWF at 11pm on the deadline and I have just got a video invite. (although I have work experience/vac schemes with three of their competitors so I think that would have helped)

Are last minute TC applications a waste of time?

Thank you for asking Jaysen, much appreciated. That does give me some motivation to get these in whilst being somewhat hopeful! With that in mind, I will triple check them and research well.

Are last minute TC applications a waste of time?

I am applying to a few training contracts and I am wondering how helpful it really is to apply now (say I send off a few applications a week before the final 31st July deadline). This legal cheek article seems to suggest that it is pointless...

Do I need to tailor work experience in my applications?

I have completed a vac scheme and got interviews at some top firms however I have never done more than make my application questions or cover letter very thorough, firm specific and clear. Obviously I have had a host of rejections as well. I was thinking - do law firms want to see how your work...
