You could say you have a preference for X-Y dates as there is a chance you may secure another scheme that would run A-B dates if that is the case.

It’s not rude, it’s managing expectations (which is much better than any other outcome really).

Just be prepared for the firm to say no and give you the “worst case” dates.

Mindset - be confident. You got to this stage for a reason, now finish off your hard work!

How accommodating are law firms who run two summer vacation schemes likely to be - re. allowing you to shift from one slot to their other one so you can accept a VS from another firm as well?

depends on the firm and how full the individual schemes are at the point of you asking, and how flexible the firm can be in upping numbers.

No one will be able to tell you than the firm in question. Just give them a call tomorrow to discuss it.
