This question in the CMS Academy application form is bothering me:

In your own words, explain one key strategy that CMS is implementing to become the leading relationship law firm. (200 words)

I do feel like it's being deliberately vague, and there's various different things it could be alluding to...
  • Partnerships with clients
  • Sector and practice specialisms within CMS legacy firms (e.g. Nabarro)
  • Collaborative ways of working
I'm interested to hear people's thoughts. I think the reason I find this so worrying is that 'relationship law firm' seems like a defined term - yet I can't find any mention of it in CMS' website or publications.

I do agree that all of these factors come into this idea of CMS becoming a "leading relationship law firm". The pages I can see referencing the term is the working for CMS page and the culture & values page. In my view, I would pick any of these that you feel are most interesting to talk about in relation to CMS. You can also define what a 'relationship law firm' means to you, in relation to CMS.

Focusing on one of CMS’s sectors, what opportunities have arisen in the ‘new ways of working’ and current business climate? (200 words)- when it says new ways of working is that meaning remote working or transformation, I am a bit confused.

My interpretation of this is that they have left it quite broad, so I think new ways of working could include both remote working and the introduction of new technology. There is an overlap between the two since the pandemic has essentially accelerated changes that would have likely happened in any event. I would also think about other ways that the pandemic has impacted the way people work, such as being able to work more flexible hours, etc.
