TC offer questions - not sure on future

hi everyone! hope all is well : )

i had a general query and wasn't so sure on where to post this or if many people have this experience. basically, i've been offered a training contract (which i'm really excited about and can't wait to start) at firm A. i'm going to leave where i am currently working as i've managed to get a role starting at firm B later this year, but i'm not so sure on the following:

1. how to talk about firm B about the offer received from firm A - i found out about the TC offer a while after i got the paralegal role at firm B;
2. whether, once firms take on an individual in the team, there is a typical "counter-offer" procees or if i would need to apply for a TC at firm B to be considered (i'll probably try to discuss this when i join, but just didn't know if this was something that would happen and my parents think it is possible... i don't).

any advice or insights would be really helpful !!!!!

Congratulations on the TC offer and the new role!

For the first point, I don't think you necessarily need to proactively tell Firm B about the offer if you accepted the paralegal role without knowing whether you had secured a TC. There is nothing unusual about taking a paralegal role while having a TC elsewhere. If it comes up naturally, you can obviously be open about it (and it might be better to do so, especially if you have posted about your TC on LinkedIn), but I wouldn't feel that you need to make a big announcement about it. I would double check your contract though and just make sure you don't have to inform them of this, just incase!

In terms of a potential counter-offer, I think your instinct is right that there isn't necessarily a standard process. Some firms may have internal opportunities or routes for existing paralegals to be considered for a TC, but I wouldn't assume that being part of the team means you would automatically be offered one. You may still need to go through the firm's usual application/recruitment process.

I would therefore go into Firm B focusing on doing a good job and building relationships, rather than joining with the expectation that they'll counter-offer your existing TC. Once you are settled in, you could definitely have a conversation with your manager about whether there are opportunities to apply for a TC internally and what that process looks like.

Ultimately, if you are really excited about the TC at Firm A, I wouldn't feel pressured to try to turn Firm B into a second TC option unless you think you would prefer to train there
