Ah ok thanks. Couple of cycles ago when I last applied I was told within a few minutes that I had failed the test and my application would not be taken any further.
Do you automatically find out the result of the test? I mean do you get told straight away if you’ve gone through to application review stage or if you’ve been rejected.
@Kazam I was responding to the question why would institutional investors be convinced the IPO will be successful if there is already high debt. And suggested looking at it in a different way to what @Christy and others had written.
I was thinking along the lines of... who are institutional...
@Selma95 I think perhaps think about this in a different way. Who are institutional investors? Why do they hold stock? Beyond company growth what is their motivation i.e what return do they want on their investment in the short, medium and long run
I agree with Jaysen - the question is broad so there’s no set way to answer. It takes me to back in the day when we had broad long form essays questions and we were told to introduce our particular angle/interpretation of the question in the introduction which we were going to discuss.
Any...
Sorry, I haven’t followed this whole thread. The fact a law firm (or any employer) is doing a background check means they want you, in whatever capacity. So why not just have an honest conversation and ask the firm at the appropriate point?! I’m sure they’ve experienced students at all levels...
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer/approach here. It depends on what you feel comfortable with, and whether you want to do more vac schemes. You say you've done a couple (ps well done), so that should/will help a lot with applications/work experience sections, some of the questions...
I’ve noticed each firm refers to themselves differently on the application. Bclp say bclp in the application questions. Hebert Smith Freehills do not say hsf.
Just a bit confusing!!
Any views/advice on this? I know some are more traditional than others. But would help a lot with word count on application questions.
E.g just an example Herbert Smith Freehills=HSF or WFW for Watson Farley William
Bit confusing as even firms refer to themselves differently is various materials.
Agree with @Jaysen that this is very vague.
Business of law=law firms? So my take on this is perhaps to think about how law firms will grow. How will they stay competitive. How will they maintain success. What can they do to make sure this happens. So as @P.Dybala has said AI/tech...
Unless...
Sooooo disheartening for the effort I’m putting in that HSF have upped the level of detail required in their application. Yet, it won’t even be read and automatically filtered out if I don’t pass the test.
Interesting indeed. I’m no expert but my views are as follows:
For the first question you have to stress why law at bclp and not say pinsent masons which is also strong in real estate. I have no set structure - it’s somethong I struggle with to be honest. But I structure it on a couple of key...
Personally, I think it helps me not be too descriptive about the the issue and concise.
A point I mentioned on another thread here is that I think the key is to highlight genuine interest which can be backed up.
Seems like they were delayed. Haha yes!! I think they’ve drastically changed their application process. E.g. Only recruiting TCs from VS.
At least it seems applications will be read this year and not just filtered out
hogan Lovells is open for all schemes/TCs
hsf is meant to be aswell for winter vac but it seems the app isn’t online.
Can anyone else see the hsf app??
Thought it would be worth asking if there was any advice for the US firms?? e.g. Kirkland, Latham, Weil, etc. What do they particularly look for? (Apart from grades)
