I mock interviewed a student last night for her Cleary assessment day today. I don't know what the firm has said on this but I presume there will be more?
Hi All,
We're trying to build an extensive catalogue of interview experiences at different law firms. We think it'll be invaluable for applicants so they get a sense of what to expect at their interviews.
So once again, we are inviting students to share their experiences of interviews in this...
Apologies for the click-bait title.
I came across this on LinkedIn - it's better than many of the generic articles I see on interviewing, so I thought I'd share...
Heads up - tomorrow, we'll be choosing another three members (one each) to receive a TCLA Premium membership for their contributions over the past week.
Click on a user's avatar and then "start a conversation". You can then add more people to the convo if you wish.
Edit: Added this box next to everyone's avatar so it's easier to start a convo:
Interesting point. I definitely think it would be helpful if we had a clearer idea of how many trainees a firm tends to recruit from vac schemes v direct training contract applications. The last investigation is a little outdated now and doesn't cover all firms: (2014)...
Happy to make a list of firms that accept TC applications, but I'm a little confused by your second point? What makes you think they are looking to take 100% from vac schemes?
Useful article if you are applying to Slaughter and May: https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidparnell/2017/04/18/steve-cooke-slaughter-and-may-strong-culture-money-not-only-factor/#204d96bd19f9
I never did tailor my answers to a commercial solicitor. I only focused on what I did. However, I think I remember Paul in a recent S&S video suggesting you should. This one is a bit up in the air for me and I've seen both approaches in applications.
Yep! Generally, if you can write like you speak (i.e. how you would answer a competency question in an interview), it tends to flow a lot better. You'll be using simple language and you'll be showing off a little more of your personality as you write.
Love The Big Short!
If you're interested in financial crisis films I'd highly recommend: Margin Call (excellent drama with Kevin Spacey), Inside Job (very good documentary on the causes) and Too Big to Fail (documentary on the responses to the crisis).
Hi All,
If anyone has interviewed at Latham & Watkins or Cleary in the past, I'd be grateful if you could drop me a PM. I'm running mock interviews for these firms next week and it would be very helpful if a student could share their thoughts/experience.
For your time, we'd be very happy to...
I agree with the others. Your experience in finance should be attractive to a law firm provided you present it well. I'd encourage you to lean on that as your USP.
I'd check over your applications as that's where many candidates fall down.
FYI - we've just brought on our commercial writers who will be writing about current news topics each week. I'm not sure when the next round of your competition is but their weekly posts may be useful.
