    Law-firm research

It generally depends on the firm, but here are the general themes I would use: International reach - presence in the US/Asia/Europe/Africa International strategy Practice area strengths Culture Financials - Size/profits per equity partner/growth Key deals Clients Management structure or...

    CVs

I've blacked out most of the content, but you can see the structure of my CV. Your CV should be a maximum of two pages. There's no set way you have to date, but make you sure keep it consistent. I used months/year.

Magic circle v US law firms?

Found an interesting piece on US and UK firms by the Lawyer. It's behind a paywall, so I'll summarise: Over the last decade, between the magic circle (excluding Slaughters): International Freshfields has had the most conservative international strategy. Clifford Chance has reigned in its...

    US firms

As Selma said -- while US firms are often grouped together, it's important to remember that each are different and looking for different things. So I can give you something a bit concrete. let me tell you how I look at it when it comes to getting candidates ready (I stress this is how I frame...

    Law Firms' Mergers

Here is what I said about this question: Law firm combinations are on a spectrum. On one side, you’ve got alliances (Linklaters and Allens) and best friend networks (Slaughters) where firms refer work, clients and maybe marketing initiatives. In the middle, you’ve got Swiss vereins, where firms...

    Law-firm research

Yep I first heard about it from Linklaters! In fact, the reason it started was because the senior partner at Linklaters had been mentored by an associate for almost a year -- which led them to pilot it for the rest of the firm. Yep - Hogan Lovells, Pinsent Masons and Taylor Wessing do it too...

Sorry, I wrote incorrectly there -- I should have said before deciding to apply. If you do it before you submit, they will just tell you to fill out the mitigating circumstances section. Chances are it won't make a difference, but it might give you some peace of mind if you ask them before...

I'll update the list. Is this typical for DLA? They don't offer direct apps at all?

    Law Firms' Mergers

Found them but they aren't very helpful -- I used the slides as guidance for most of my presentation, so much of the notes won't make sense/they don't cover most of it. Feel free to ask if you want me to cover anything in the slides. What am I going to cover? Why does it matter? The City How...

I don't really agree with this. If you have a decent 2:1, you have a good chance at almost all MC/US/SC firms. The rest is down to you and your experiences. They'll take strong mitigating circumstances into account -- as whatever happened was out of your control.
