This happens all the time - if anything I think it is best to be honest and at least you are demonstrating you are a competitive candidate.
Law firms have these conversations all the time - the worst that can happen if they cannot offer you an alternative (they often can) and then you have to...
It is no different to a face-to-face interview - it's the ability to clearly communicate your skill set/motivations/strengths in a persuasive, genuine and enthusiastic manner.
@AvniD has collated some great posts in the past, which are linked here:
TCLA interview question bank - I'd place a...
The other option is to renege on the first offer if your preference is for the latest firm.
A few firms let you only do part of a vacation scheme, but it is rare. Most firms will say it is either attend the full scheme or not attend at all. Some firms will convert you to a TC process instead -...
I don't think you can practice as such, as it generally needs other people to practice the negotiation with. The link provided above I think is really helpful/insightful though.
Plenty of people do send thank yous. If you do, I would only do it to those you have contact details for - tracking down your interviewers email address can feel a bit stalker-ish at times.
Just keep the thank you short and sweet - it literally only needs to be 2-3 sentences thanking them for...
Firms can take nerves into account and generally recognise that they won’t always be there after the recruitment process. This is particularly not an issue if your communication gets stronger as the interview progresses or if it’s an assessment centre and you have had multiple interactions with...
Unless you are at a final interview stage, everything is likely to be via email. If it is that you are waiting for an outcome from a final interview, they will likely email you as well as call.
It won't impact any decisions - they won't organise too many assessment centres and will expect the same quality in someone who comes in on the first assessment centre as they do in the last.
Unfortunately, this is an issue many international applicants who are not currently studying in the UK face. I wish there was an answer I could give that would help with this, but it is a massive obstacle many people face - I talk to a good number of our international TCLA members about this...
You will be working more than 20 hours as a vacation scheme student, so you would definitely need sponsorship for the vacation scheme.
Based on TCLA's knowledge and the experience of our community, most firms do not apply for visas for vacation scheme students, only for trainees. If you have...
I don't think this will be an issue - they have a lot of vac schemes to fill and will have some flex to increase numbers if they really wanted to offer people. It sounds like you are only talking about a week or so's difference and I suspect they will still be interviewing beyond when you do...
You can send the additional details through - they may not be able to add/amend your application, but there is no harm in advising them of the change in referee details.
Whoever told you this is incorrect.
The firm will be paying tax and NI for you - the only way they won't be doing so if it is unpaid internship. Every job that pays employees in the UK will be subject to tax and NI - you are not exempt just because of the job title (as otherwise everyone's job...
The other issue is you can only have one visa, and so the Tier 2/Skilled Persons Visa would have to be given up to work under another visa, meaning returning to the main employment would be particularly difficult/costly.
It is highly unlikely you will be able to work for another employer for a vacation scheme. The following restrictions apply when you are under Skilled Persons Visa
General “good practice” would be to withdraw from the vacation scheme, especially if there is no chance of you accepting a TC with the VS firm over the firm you have been offered.
However, enough people don’t do this. Whether they need the money for the summer or just want to build up their CV...
