Latham PFO for SVS.
Really gutted as felt it was one of my stronger apps.
This cycle has become really demoralising if I’m honest as receiving far more PFOs this time round than last year, even though substantially more research and effort is being put into applications. Ah well, onto the next...
It’s essentially a WG, just slightly different (from memory they have “a fairly strong/weak argument and “a very strong/weak argument” with the evaluating arguments section). I think there’s a practice test they provide before you start and it’s identical to that.
It was honestly quite...
How much weight does the VI question hold do people reckon? If you had a strong application and a weak VI, do you reckon that will massively count against you? Or as it’s only the one question, there will be less weight on it?
How long did it take you to receive the report?
And as a side note, how much are the reports worth reading into? I had a Linklaters one where it seems my 1 weakness was a key competency; should I basically be expecting that inevitable PFO?
Yep 😭😭 I found the SJT difficult in itself (one of those ones where every option appears reasonable) and the VI question wasn't terrible but 3 minutes just feels so long. As a caveat, how bad is it in VIs to make mistakes? I got myself mixed up in my first sentence and just offset the whole pace...
Just about to sit the Latham SJT and was just wondering if someone had a link to Latham's key competencies for reference? Also, do you get a break in-between the SJT and VI? Or is it straight into the VI? Thanks!

I see a few have already received PFOs and I’ve seen one acceptance. Perhaps they’re going through Spring VS first and then doing the Summer ones? They seem to be pretty quick though in comparison to other firms!
Most firms have grade requirements listed on their website. Most will expect a 2:1 degree as a minimum though and A-Level requirements can vary, although the “bigger” firms tend to look for AAB and above.
If you have extenuating circumstances with your grades, there should be a space for this...
Just had an A&O PFO but had this email reply: “Although we’re not able to progress further with your application on this occasion, we would like to be able to contact you if any other suitable opportunities come up.”
Is that a generic PFO that everyone got?
I applied on 8 November and received a test invite on 29 November, so wouldn’t lose hope yet as still took 3 weeks for it to come through after applying.
However, it does say they “will be in touch should you be successfully shortlisted”, so it may unfortunately be the case that it’s one of...
I agree completely with your point on rolling deadlines and you never know if you don't apply but in general, would you advise increasing your chances by putting energy into a firm with a rolling deadline further in the future or non-rolling if a rolling deadline is close? For instance, if I...
