I think that's fine to say. Ultimately you're applying for the vac scheme with the aim of becoming a trainee (if that is your case), and during the scheme you will be assessed for the training contract too, so yes it makes sense.
There are some firms that will pay your GDL fees retrospectively. Here is the list from a previous thread:

Hii, regarding Q1, I agree that mentioning prestigious clients and culture can sound impersonal and sometimes too general. However, I find there are some ways you can link them back to your interests and experience and produce a great application.
In terms of clients, of course saying "Beyoncé...
Hey, I can give insight on Latham & Watkins :) I completed a Spring scheme with the firm, and while most trainees come from the vac schemes, I spoke to at least 2 trainees who were successful through the direct TC route. So definitely apply!
I know they are conducting TC interviews in the...
Hey, welcome to the forum :)
As a non-law student, if your goal is to secure the training contract between 2022-23, with a 2025 start, in the two year period you have in between, you're required to complete a law degree ((P)GDL) and a course to follow (LPC/SQE).

Hey :) It really doesn't have to be law related! I wrote about my love for kickboxing haha, it's totally an opportunity to showcase your interests and what is important to you; they just want to know you as a candidate. And no need to relate it back to the firm either.
