    BCLP Assessment Centre

Hey guys! Haven't been on here in ages. Hope everyone is well :) I've been invited to an AC at BCLP and would really appreciate any advice from anyone regarding what to expect! I understand the day includes a drafting exercise, a business style role play, a team-based negotiation exercise and...

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

Do you mind if I ask when you guys applied? I'm still waiting for NRF too but I applied pretty late

    Bullet points

I second prose form but am facing the same problem with the NRF application where word limits are 150 words. I wonder - does anyone have any advice if for these Qs on extra curricular activities with short word counts, if you should talk about more but give less detail on each, or expand on...

    Prep for an open day?

And if you're applying for a vac scheme/TC, make sure to keep the application questions in mind so you can ask the firm Qs which could help you answer them! :)

    Question on your greatest achievements

Honestly, I think any example you think is relevant probably is! When I spoke to two Dentons partners, they seemed to prefer the abstract answers and the small but more personal achievements you mentioned. But I think it might differ across firms. I say go with what you feel most comfortable...

    Extra-Curriculars

These are really good suggestions! I was just wondering though, would it be detrimental to mention a political affiliation? I was unsure if it could be risky if the interviewer doesn't share it.

    Discouraged

Yep, heard the same with Slaughters - when I went for to the law fair in Exe, they actually mentioned they're looking more for those with 1sts as a lot of applicants have high 2.1s but I dont know if they still take this view.

    Herbert Smith Freehills Online Assessment?

Nope! Firm needs to email you if successful to next stage and that's normally a few weeks

    Watson Glaser Test Tips

Haha yeah! But then it's the question of if you're just making the same mistake again if you answer the same

    Watson Glaser Test Tips

From my experience, the first time I answered the questions, I did take a little longer than I'd liked because the answers aren't always clear and it's often quite close with another option. But the test questions are recycled quite a lot so if you apply to multiple firms you normally get the...

    Herbert Smith Freehills Online Assessment?

I think Fieldfisher uses the shape/logical reasoning test, I found it quite fun (after practising a few times)

    Aston Martin IPO

@Christy wrote a good article on the IPO if you haven't already seen it :) https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/a-truly-british-ipo/

    References?

Nope, if they do not ask for references during the application process, it is unlikely (I've never experienced) that they ask for it after. Maybe if they were to offer you a TC after a first year scheme like I know CC sometimes does, and if the FY scheme application didn't have a reference...

Advice for applying to direct training contracts or vacation schemes?

When I went to the NRF Legal Cheek event, one of the trainees said that it was easier to get in through a TC than a VS for NRF specifically as they don't heavily focus on recruiting through the VS like other firms do.
  18. kaveesha

    References?

Not all firms do and you can't really tell which do until you see the form unfortunately. Like Dentons and CMS don't but Bird & Bird does.

    Abbreviating firm names

I know Shearman & Sterling don't mind S&S if it's consistent throughout the app
