Is it harder to get a VS/TC at the Magic Circle or the Elite US firms?

Is it statistically harder to get a VS/TC at say Clifford Chance or Slaughter and May than it is at the very best US firms in London, like Latham & Watkins or Weil?

Does one type of firm tend to attract more talented individuals?

If you just looked at application numbers to ratio of vacancies, I wouldn’t expect MC firms to be more competitive. Just because they are recruiting close to 100 and most US firms are recruiting less than 10.

But competitiveness doesn’t just come down to application numbers. Generally I’d say they are just as competitive as ultimately the top 25% of the applications they receive (the ones that really matter as they are the ones most likely to be selected for interview) are the same pool of candidates.
