Is anyone still waiting to hear from Freshfields? I’ve not got a good feeling with it taking so long
From what I can tell (which is limited), so long as your application is still 'live' (i.e., under the 'Active' tab and shows as 'In Progress' compared to a failed application which will be 'Inactive' and shown as 'Completed'), it's not a PFO. They may have just not got to it yet. Especially since, I'm guessing, AC invites have not yet been sent out, which they said they'd only start sending out once the last batch have completed their WG. Last year they were sending out WG invites until mid-August so there's still a chance :)

Hi everyone

Wanted to get views on this question: 'Why do you want to become a lawyer in a major business and finance firm?'

Would people interpret this as a general 'why commercial law?' question or would it be more 'why transactional law' specifically question?

Thanks a lot.

I think it needs to be naunced than either commercial law and transactional law.

The firm clearly like to label themselves as business and finance. I would check to see what they mean by this, given their practice areas and specialisms and make sur e your answer aligns with this rather than commercial law (much broader definition) or transactional law (could be too narrow a definition).

Got a fairly niche quesitons, but does anyone know of firms that work heavily within environmental law, say like shipping or energy?
Vinson & Elkins are pretty well known for their energy work. White & Case is another big player in this sphere too, along with Milbank. On the shipping side, I think Stephenson Harwood and HFW are ranked pretty highly.

I am not sure if this cycle’s will be the same as their email states that AC will be conducted from 14 August to 30 August 2023.
