It really doesn't matter what the extracurricular activity is - what you need to demonstrate from the extracurriculars you do are commitment/dedication, having impact within them and transferable skills gained. But whether it is sports, arts, volunteering, faith/politics, academic/intellectual, community-led, or something just fun, it really doesn't matter - I have seen ultimate frisbee and cheerleading to be as (and sometimes more) impressive as "traditional" extracurriculars like mooting and writing for legal journals.

You definitely don't need a summer internship in banking, consulting or financial services. If anything such roles could bring into question why you want a career in law. It is not that they should be avoided, but they aren't going to automatically make your application stronger.

It doesn't matter if your work experience is in the UK or not. However, if your experience is predominately outside of the UK, I would recommend weaving in "why commercial law in the UK specifically" into your motivational answers in applications and interviews.

You don't need anything unique at the same time. Lots of people have very "traditional" profiles that are very similar from candidate to candidate. Its really about highlighting your individual impact and success in your activities as this is what makes you unique.
I see! Thank you Jessica that's very helpful!

I assume it’s a ‘stop emailing us for updates’ email but successful candidates will hear soon?
I can only speak from my experience having applied for the WVS, but usually the date they give is the day they send out their PFOs. 🥲

Since the deadline was 3+ weeks ago, I think they have finished reviewing applications now and will begin inviting to next stages. 🙂

Best of luck to everyone who has applied to Ashurst for their DTC. I hope you guys all hear back with positive news soon. 😅

Can anyone who has taken the BCLP online exams confirm how it is like? It has situational strengths test, critical and verbal reasoning that I know, but who is the provider? Is it cappfinity or Watson glasser or something else? Plus is there a video element or numerical reasoning as well?

I think the test is a mix of situational judgment questions, verbal and critical reasoning (e.g., Watson Glaser) and numerical reasoning style questions. I don’t think there is a VI element as part of the test but they do have a VI stage. It’s a live interview with HR so not a pre-recorded one. I’m not sure if it’s Cappfinity. It just said it was their bespoke online test. Best of luck with your BCLP application. 🙂
Thank you! I just hate it when they include numerical element in the test as well. How long was the numerical element and how long long did it take you to complete the entire online assessment?

I remember it being tough, but not the worst (Reed Smith’s was the worst). There was no VI and I don’t remember there being much in the way of maths questions, compared to other tests anyway. I sat it before Xmas so hard to remember exactly.
