I'd be interested to know how DEI works 'in practice' when it comes to applications. Is it a lens that's applied from the start or only when comparing two 'equal' applicants? One of my white, straight, male friends is worried about it being ultra competitive for his sort of demographic now...
I (completely randomly) did work experience at American Express Legal and they were super nice. I think in-house roles can be really interesting so this is a great initiative!
This is really excellent advice. I had mitigating circumstances and was able to defer my TC as a result - made a big difference.
Best of luck to the OP and others in this situation and hope you manage to work it out.
[NOT legal advice but seems very unlikely the law firm will sue you to pay...
For the purposes of the application you'll need to submit all of your first year grades for all law firms. It's still possible to get an interview with those grades but truthfully you're best off revising very hard next year, getting excellent grade and then making your big application push (in...
Sure - B2C would be a business that gets hired by individuals (e.g. a no-win/no-fee personal injury law firm) while B2B would be a business that gets hired by other businesses (e.g. Kirkland & Ellis is unlikely to act for individuals and mostly acts for corporates). It's easier to make this...
I imagine (and just guessing here!) that an in-house TC interview will be more focused on the strategic elements and showing how you understand how the Legal department interact with Operations, Tax, Finance etc. It's "commercial awareness" but different from the usual law firm use of that word
Sorry to hear about this. How long is your CV? It should ideally be 2 pages in length. And have you had a friend review to check for typos? I would encourage you to continue to apply on LinkedIn and reach out to recruiters expressing your interest. A few friends are doing paralegal roles and...
Was this Wassie Lawyer or Gonbe? ;)
I agree that discussing crypto in an interview or application is high risk/high reward. Most law firm partners are conservative and think it's a massive scam... although if you're speaking to a restructuring lawyer at a US/MC firm they may be involved in...
Great analysis! Another point to add here is the effect of sovereign wealth investing in UK assets. There are already national security concerns with Chinese investment in key sectors in the UK (military/tech/critical infrastructure etc). Check out the EU Foreign Subsidy regime that will be...
Sorry Ricky but that's not quite right (or we may be talking cross purposes!)
Private Company Sale
If company A is buying company B from company C then the following occurs:
(1) Company A board minutes to approve the purchase
(2) Company B board minutes to agree to register Company A as the...
Hi Jessica
A friend of mine was wondering if - as a general principle - one is better off applying for vacation schemes or training contracts at a firm? I realise a vac scheme is useful work experience plus most firms heavily recruit from their vac schemes, but equally wondered if you are past...
I would pretty much disagree with all of these for various reasons. Maybe DLA Piper but Bakers would probably claim otherwise. I would think of international law firms that use a Swiss verein structure - Norton Rose, Dentons and other firms with a large global footprint.
