Hi @Jessica Booker hope you are doing well. I had a question about Slaughter and May. The firm's USP is its multi-specialist approach which means that a typical corporate trainee will not just do a subset of corporate work (like he would in other firms), but he would engage in different things like IPOs, private M&As, regular corporate tasks like amending board minutes etc.

My question is, to display an interest in this approach, do we need to show a specific interest in different kinds of legal work (through our legal work experience) or do we need to showcase our personality of being a curious generalist over a specialist (through our hobbies/extra-curriculars)?

Can you use the same example of a news story or challenges in the legal sector in a second interview if you used it in the first interview with the same firm, the week before?

Hi @futuretraineesolicitor - it is just about explaining why you think this approach is better suited to you. That doesn't have to come from previous experiences though (whether work experience or extracurriculars), it may just be how you think this will suit your interests/motivations going forward - e.g. thinking about how that might influence your day to day work, and how that will then keep you happy/motivated.

Just got a PFO from an assessment day last week. Got an interview on Tuesday at another firm. does anyone have any tips on putting PFOs out of your mind and focusing on preparing for the next interview? I find it terrifying that I won't improve much between now and then and scared this will bring about another PFO!

    Can you get feedback before? I would actively seek out feedback so you know why you didn’t get through and can take some steps to improve in these areas

    hi, i did a vac scheme at slaughters last year. like what Jessica said, all you have to do is tell them why you think the multi-specialist approach and that kind of training would be beneficial for your development, and draw comparisons with a different style of training at other firms. my supervisor was in 'finance' i.e. did everything from debt finance to capital markets to PE = being able to do a range of different areas keeps his career interesting. but there are drawbacks ofc

    The system is probably not sophisticated enough for it to time out at 10pm exactly, but there is no harm in doing it by 10pm - in fact you might not want to leave it that late in case there are any technical issues.

    Always aim to do your test within working hours of the deadline given.

    Does anyone know how to contact HL Grad Rec? Jen Baird's not answering so I left a voice message. I'm asking for reasonable adjustments to be made when assessing the WG score and I can't get through to anyone in Grad Rec.

    For reasonable adjustments for the WG, I think you have to email Pearsons directly and have it put in place before you complete the assessment. That’s what I did for NFR. Not sure if its the same process for HL.
