Looking for advice. In my interview today the interviewer asked me questions about their practice area and I counter argued his point by stating that recently in the news it said different and the UK is behind other countries in the work done in his practice area but then he said to me this is wrong and that is wrong as the UK is ahead of other countries in transactions in his practice area. Is this a bad sign as I kept on counter arguing his points and his practice areas but with evidence. Will this be seen as a negative when assessing my interview performance. Btw for reference purposes the partner did not specialise in the energy sector. Am just thinking about this too much I guess.

I feel like it is really hard to tell as we do not have specifics as to what was actually discussed and the partner's responses to your questions, his tone and body language, but I would say that if an interview is a discussion-based interview, it will be communicated. This means that I would not enter into a debate on a practice area with someone who might know more than me personally speaking.

It might be quite risky but it also might be really good if you managed to convince the partner so do not look too much into it, but for future reference, if the assessment centre is a debate and it has been clearly specified, then I would advise you to be more confrontational. This is just my personal opinion though.

A little off topic but for paralegal and other professional positions, is it worth including non-law jobs you've done on your CV or will it seems less professional? I don't mean for vacation schemes but specifically for legal positions

Yes. I would always include any jobs - it does not matter what environment they are in.
