Quick tips to improve your applications:

  1. Use precise language
  2. Cut long descriptions of firms/deals
  3. Don’t use a big word where a simple word will do
  4. Cut out flattery; don’t tell a firm they’re awesome, explain why they’re awesome
  5. Cut out application clichés like ‘relish’, ‘sparked’ and ‘wanting to be [insert job] ever since you were a baby’
  6. Don’t list the skills you developed through an activity, prove it by explaining what you actually did
  7. Cut out adverbs like ‘very’ and ‘incredibly’
  8. Cut sentences that don’t add value to your answer
